In August of 1859, Colonel Edwin Drake drilled into the earth in northern Venango county, and the oil industry was born.
Now known as 'The Valley That Changed The World', the Oil Region is an outdoor lover's paradise. Opportunities for biking,
hiking, camping and paddle sports are plentiful. You can participate in other activities, too, like bird and wildlife watching
or geocaching. Load up your gear and make the trip - you won't be disappointed !!

Our region is steeped in history and artifacts, like Indian God Rock, pictured above. This rock originally had petroglyphs
believed to date back to 1200 AD. Erosion of the rock from weather and high water has worn those primitive markings away.
It is now covered with carvings dating back to the mid 1800's.
The vast network of trails offered in our area affords the user an array of different scenery. The Wild and Scenic Allegheny
River, Lake Erie, Oil Creek and manmade Lake Wilhelm are some of the waterways accessed by our trails.
